Tutor agreement

Your status

You teach on BookGlot as an independent contractor, not as an employee or worker of [COMPANY NAME]. You choose whether to accept students, set your own teaching approach and materials within a club's book and schedule, and aren't required to teach exclusively on BookGlot. You're responsible for your own tax, National Insurance, and (if applicable) VAT — BookGlot doesn't withhold or file these on your behalf.

Becoming a tutor

Applications are reviewed by BookGlot before you can publish a club. We may decline an application, or revoke tutor status later, at our reasonable discretion — for example for misrepresenting your experience, or for conduct that breaches these terms.

Commission & payment

BookGlot takes a commission on both club subscription revenue and 1-on-1 lesson bookings, at the standard platform rate shown in your tutor dashboard. Some tutors or tutor groups may be set a different fixed rate at BookGlot's discretion; it does not change based on how long you've been teaching on BookGlot. Payouts are made via Stripe Connect: Stripe collects your bank details directly during onboarding, and we never see or store them. Payout timing and any Stripe processing fees follow Stripe's own terms for your account.

Running a club

As a tutor, you agree to:

• Show up to scheduled sessions, or give students reasonable notice if you can't.
• Set an accurate schedule, level, and book for your club before publishing it.
• Deliver sessions yourself, in good faith, to the level and format your club listing describes.
• Treat students professionally and respectfully — see our Community Guidelines, which apply to you too.
• Not record a session, or ask a student to, without everyone present giving informed consent.

Pricing

You set your club's subscription price and, if you opt into 1-on-1 lessons, your lesson rate, within any bounds BookGlot publishes. BookGlot doesn't set your rates, but reserves the right to remove listings priced in a way that's misleading or that manipulates the platform's fee structure.

Taking students off-platform

We ask that you don't solicit students you met through BookGlot to pay you directly for the same or substantially the same teaching, for the duration of an active season. We understand a tutor and a group of students may build a genuine ongoing relationship, and we can't and won't police what happens after a club has naturally ended — we just ask you not to actively route around billing while a season a student paid for is still running.

Content & materials

You own the teaching materials, discussion prompts, and curriculum choices you bring to your club. BookGlot owns the platform itself and the schedule/discussion data generated on it (per our Privacy Policy). Neither party may claim ownership of the other's.

Your responsibility for your own teaching

You're responsible for the accuracy, quality, and professionalism of your own instruction, and for holding any qualifications you claim to have. BookGlot isn't a party to the tutor-student teaching relationship itself and doesn't guarantee outcomes for either side.

Ending this agreement

You can stop teaching on BookGlot at any time — existing subscriptions run to the end of their billing period per our refund policy. We may suspend or remove tutor access for breach of these terms, safeguarding concerns, or repeated failure to run a viable cohort, proportionate to the issue and with notice where practical.

Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales, on the same terms as our Terms of Service.
